Project: Breits
was called to this Lakewood home to design
a kitchen that would fulfill two requirements the
homeowner requested:
1)
Refrigerator was not in the kitchen, but in an
adjacent pantry. She asked for a centralized
location in the kitchen, to facilitate a good
work triangle.
2)
She requested an island in a kitchen that
was less than 144 sq. ft. |
 
Design
Solution: Owner knew that in a previous remodeling
job, a staircase leading to the second floor
had been closed off. Designer Art Breitenbach
removed the wall under the staircase and recessed
a 48" built-in refrigerator. Also, the microwave
was recessed into this space. (Note the pull
out work counter and full-extension drawers under
the built-in microwave.
The
kitchen sink was pushed out by installing a bay
window. These two features allowed enough floor
space for a small island. |
